"We have found that several women police constables and SPOs were controlling and running the racket in Srinagar," a senior officer has said.
'Well-informed sources' have said that over 10 sex rackets were active in Srinagar and places around the city.
A police officer said, "We have the names of 45 women who were being forced into prostitution and we have concrete evidence to prove that there are many more women and young girls involved."
The sex scandal began when a 15-year-old girl registered a case against the prime accused, Sabina, in early May 2006.
The girl named a number of top people in her complaint.
A section of the Kashmir administration is reportedly trying to hamper the police investigations.
Five people, including a police officer, a restaurant owner and a doctor, have been paraded in front of the 15-year-old in Srinagar. The sources said that the victim had provided lists of people who were involved in the scandal.
"It is a long list of nearly 56 people and there are names from all sections of society, including a deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Border Security Force (BSF), local politicians, doctors, lawyers, senior police officers and hoteliers," a CBI (police) officer said.
